The provincial government's regular meeting yesterday laid out an 11-point requirement aimed at curbing pork prices, ensuring food safety and increasing support for breeding.
According to the provincial Department of Commerce, since June last year, the purchase price of live pigs in our province continues to rise. After May this year, the rise accelerated. At the end of June, the purchase price of live pigs was 20 yuan/kg, up more than 100% year on year. The wholesale price of pork in June was 26.52 yuan/kg, up more than 100% year on year, and up 42.96% from January this year.
The recent increase in meat prices has led to a decline in market sales. On July 1, the volume of wholesale market in the province decreased by 36.86% compared with the previous week (June 17).
In response to the rising price of meat, yesterday's meeting made 11 demands to calm the price of pork. Zhao zhengyong said pig farmers "are also worried about the wide fluctuations in pork prices. They also want the market to be stable and don't want the price to fluctuate wildly."
It is understood that in the second half of 2007, the state introduced some policies to support pig production, some policies have not been implemented so far. "You can't just forget about farmers when things get better." Zhao admonished officials at all levels.
This time, support production will be from the increase of insurance, help enterprises loan, monitoring feed prices and quality and other aspects of the expansion. "Financial institutions should study loan support for pig breeding." Zhao Zhengyong said, and take out certain funds to discount interest.
Zhao called for strict monitoring of the price and quality of feed due to rising feed prices and farmers' complaints that pigs are eating more expensive than humans.
At present, the price of pork, logistics costs account for a considerable cost, so "expired road tolls should be abolished, reduce road tolls." Zhao Zhengyong stressed the need to effectively reduce the cost of circulation.
In response to the recent food safety problems, Zhao zhengyong called for a severe crackdown in accordance with the law and "food safety problems should not be allowed to damage the credibility of the government."
